The weather has been crazy. We had flooding rain with high winds last week. Now it's frozen outside and not looking like it's going to get close to 50 degrees today--but I suppose there's still lots of time for that to happen. We stayed in yesterday for the entire day. Today, I plan to go to the gym in the late afternoon for some indoor cycling and perhaps weight lifting if I leave early enough.
We did not get into the local AKC trial I had entered in February. We aren't too far down on the waitlist, but far enough that I decided to enter a trial in Missouri that same weekend. Emma can run on Friday and Sunday, and Revel can run on Friday and Saturday. (He could also run Sunday, but I don't want to stay late since it's a long drive back.) We might still get into the local trial, in which case I will pull from the Missouri trial and cancel my hotel reservations. It all seems so complicated. However, the trial site in Missouri is one I've been told is fantastic--dirt at the National Equestrian Center, and the hotel I'm using is practically right next door (I'm pampering myself). I am excited to try this trial site, even though a weekend at home would be simpler. We have a USDAA home trial the previous weekend, and I entered lots of classes on Saturday and only a few on Sunday (one for Revel, two for Emma). I don't have a pairs partner and Snooker makes me crazy, so I didn't enter those on Sunday.
Revel is coming along with his jump work. His online class starts the first week of February. I am eager to go back through some of the exercises we have tried and get expert feedback--both for him, and for my understanding of teaching jumping. His understanding and excitement for agility is growing, and he's really fun to train now. Boys require infinite patience...they mature so slowly.
I have ring rentals booked Monday and Wednesday, and then an out of town trial on dirt over the weekend. Revel is entered, so I need to be thinking of how best to help him...such as by making sure he's comfortable with the broad jump, tire, triple, double, etc. He is comfortable with these, or at least was last time we used them, but it's been a while, so he needs a refresher. I'm looking forward to working with him this coming weekend. Emma likes this trial site too, so it's always fun to run her there.
