IncrediPAWS class 11/2/11

Class was really fun yesterday. The lesson focused on blind crosses. We started out by doing them at non-turning obstacles, and then moved into using them at jumps. We talked about the mechanics, where/why to use them, when/why not to use them, and the corresponding foundation skills that could possibly suffer if blinds were used frequently. It was a very interesting class and we all had tons of fun. Emma ran the fastest she's run in a long time at the facility, and I was very pleased with her performance, especially her DW and teeter. The work we've been doing on the end position has paid off. She was fast, but never doubted the criteria and didn't even think about self-releasing or running through.

Revel got to play in a short ring rental after class. There were many, many things we could have worked on...it's overwhelming with a baby dog--everything needs work. I brought some things with me, but in the end, decided to work on handling using jumps, tunnels and weaves and forego contact training. The turns on the flat are feeling much more natural to both of us now, which makes me think I can actually guide him around a novice JWW course at the end of the month!
