Catching up

Revel can weave 12 poles now, with all kinds of entries. I added a jump before and after the weaves yesterday, with the jump after requiring a straight exit, and the jump before requiring difficult entries. We tried a 180 jump-weave combination, and I used a pull, RC on the flat, and FC on the flat to get the entry. Emma got to do some of these same exercises.

My next goal with weaving is to get Revel on 24-inch poles (which I'll be able to do on Saturday). I would also like to buy a set of 12 poles with 24-inch spacing, preferably with aluminum bases. I think he'll be more comfortable with the wider spacing. I don't want to work on weaving every day, so today we'll work on other things. I'm glad I pushed through the training to get him on 12 poles, but he did get bored with the activity because we worked on it so much.

Emma trialed at Countryside this past weekend and we had a great time. There's something about visiting home, with other friendly people and dogs, that makes her relaxed and happy when we trial there. Maybe it's just a less stressful environment to be in a real house instead of a hotel room. At any rate, we both love trialing at Countryside and Emma runs well there. Her times were very fast and she was definitely motivated and had a great attitude.

Training challenges: During our final Standard run, Emma didn't stop on her DW contact; she slowed down (a little!), and ran right through! I'd rather have that error than slow accuracy, so we'll continue to work on the wait for release aspect while trying not to lose our willingness to release quickly and with enthusiasm on a verbal cue. I need to revisit some exercises on the flat I use to work through this. I also took her travel plank to the PA Gamelands (a very stimulating place, with great hiking trails and lots of ponds for swimming) and recreated the error there. She got a big correction for releasing on my motion rather than my verbal cue, and didn't repeat the error.
